James Popoff, Hockey Dad co-creator and performer, is the Founding Artistic Director

of burnt thicket theatre. Popoff, an Alberta native who grew up on hockey, completed

an M.F.A. in drama at University of Calgary. “It’s surprising to see how much of my own

story is finding its way into the script,” says this father of four, “from my sons’ recent

romance with the game, to my dad’s years with the Lloydminster Border Kings.”

Directed by Stephen Waldschmidt, a former Vancouver resident, Pacific Theatre actor and co-creator of the play.
