2010 Badlands Passion Play Announces Dates, Pricing & Auditions
2010 version aims to top record attendance achieved in 2009
Canadian Badlands Passion Play performances receive standing ovations.
Drumheller, Alberta, -- “We can’t wait for July to arrive,” says Vance Neudorf, General Manager for the
Canadian Badlands Passion Play. “We set a new record attendance of 12,000 for our six Passion Play performances
in July 2009, and as of today we are on a track to set another one. Last year, a survey of our audiences confirmed
that we had produced a spectacular, authentic show that is unmatched in North America. Those in attendance told
us our play is simply the greatest story ever told – and that we do it with passion, great music, convincing actors and
all within in our beautiful natural amphitheatre.”
Stephen Waldschmidt moves audiences with his inspiring portrayal of Jesus.

Canadian Badlands Passion Play Audition Dates
Artistic Director Randall Wiebe is charged with making the 2010 version of the Canadian Badlands Play the best ever.
“It’s a daunting task to make the show better than the previous year,” says Wiebe. “However, we always find a way by
making changes and updates to the script, set, cast, music and choir.”
Wiebe is often asked about how people can get involved in the Badlands Passion Play. The easiest way is to volunteer
as an actor or in a non-speaking role.“Only those wishing to try out for speaking parts need to audition. Those wishing to
be in a non-speaking role don’t have to audition, but they need to register.”
Adds Wiebe, “The speaking auditions are on a ‘first come’ basis and consist of a cold reading. The entire commitment
to be in the play consists of eight weekends of rehearsal and performance and two weekday evenings for dress rehearsals.
Our volunteers come from all over Alberta to be a part of the Passion Play. The commitment is slightly less for those
who are interested in being a member of the Choir or orchestra. These volunteers are able learn and practice their music
before rehearsals start.”

There are many non-speaking roles. Some include dancing and music.
Wiebe explained that non-speaking roles can be equally demanding and range from the portrayal of a Roman soldier,
to that of a temple guard, priest, farmer or follower. “You may even find yourself dancing, singing, laughing, crying,
running, jumping, yelling and imitating the sounds of animals and the wind. Non-speaking roles are integral to the
success of our plays.”
